Blog assignment 4

Technical Process
  1. I was taking risk to paint so many figures in a large scale that was almost overwhelming. To paint in a fashion of taking color risks with increased expressionist style. The incorporation of large brushstrokes with the neon paint was a risk but rewarding in learning through studies.
  2. Things that I did that I felt safe were doing the large brushstrokes for the lights to mimic their movement.

Materials
  1. I chose oil paint on several canvases because of the high art form/glaze that oil paint automatically gives to a painting. The several canvases are a personal metaphor for ideas about looking through windows inside of a computer. (Only memories are pictures online of this place and time)
  2. I used linseed oil to create quick static brushstrokes to mimic the movement of late night dance music. I feel if I worked on one canvas it would become less Zach Sesar looking but I believe that is my soon change in art.
  3. The scale was under following the large scale of abstract expressionist figure work and to give the situation of this event automatic power.

Content and Meaning
  1. Dark, vivid, thick, bold, fun, amateur.
  2. Working from two images combining elements from both on one-canvas helps gives the idea that this was a dark but vivid dream. The gesture movement is to mimic that music as discussed before. Quick drunken movement found inside of the brushstroke.
  3. The message I want to portray is a vivid light coming from surrounding darkness. People trying to govern others because they are having fun or they’re not having fun. I don’t know until I get more feedback about the work being didactic.
  4. This work is personal because it involves with the audience of the younger generation that I am part of. My brushstroke and Canvas style just says Zach Sesar and I am sick of it.

Context
  1. Influence by Ursula O’ Farrell by her use of vivid color through tragic scenes/part of abstract expressionist figure art style. Along with influences from Leroy Neiman by his fun content expressionist brushstroke.
  2. Stated it before, but it differs because the figures still resemble attempts of trying to be realistic looking. I should get more intense with color I believe.
  3. I am influenced by large gatherings of people listening to universal sounds grouping together and sharing body movement/sweat to let go of everything that is important. I am also influenced through the young generations hysterical ideas of endless partying saying fuck it. Getting younger and younger growing up faster and faster with so much to not do.
  4. I’m documenting this world.

Artist Statement for “Vivid” series

“Do what you will, this world’s a fiction and is made up of contradiction.”

-William Blake

When lost inside the moment of dance with friends and strangers, one can forget all mental constrictions of what is right or wrong; what one should be doing for betterment is all forgotten. Working from ideas of being up late feeling the world spin covering worries with a drink in one hand and the other is turning the volume up on the stereo. Being caught in a dark place of people trying govern/stop others while vivid life coming from the freedom of dance appears through this darkness.

My source images are photographs of small get together parties of friendly freedom; single posed moving figures in dance, and images of large groups collecting together to hear the sounds of their gods persuading them to let loose and dance inside their music. These images are selected for the idea that generally these events with friends, family, strangers, and liquid courage/ freedom are shunned upon by those trying to govern. A beautiful fun vivid light that radiates through controlling darkness.
My stylistic ideas come from the Bay Area figurative painting movement developed in the 1950s. The painting from this era generally are known for large painted figures on large canvases with vivid color and “loose/primitive (under the influence)” brushstrokes.

Recycle Canvas?

These first four sketches are most likely part of the smiling workman series, but i thought ill share.
Ideas of love are best served on a dish cold...

Working with Creating the Figure in an abstract way for re-creation of activities that one generally wants to become ambiguous when executing these activities. Dealing with Nightlife and the expressive movement of the body with vivid brushstrokes. These are my sketches. let me know what you think...

New Project: Abstract Expressionist Figure Art

Currently it looks like nothing but an on-going process of course.
Trying to capture the movement and energy of a blurred picture is pretty difficult.
This work is a study for the later larger works by understanding of how to paint with an expressive mark.
I want this expressive mark to capture the viewer into a scene at a party.a feeling of ambiguous lucious movement of fun activity.

Project had to be Cancelled

Project Title: Bending Dimensions of Reality from the eyes of just another Tourist

I canceled my continuation of work on these paintings because of the self-created emotional pain of being in a constant state of simulacrum. Trying to depict symbols and tell a story that is playing out in front of our eyes as rome is burning. It is Human nature for history to repeat itself...  There was many more layers to this project and might be re-addressed after graduation.
